Introduction to Pre-Registration Training for Childminders

Date and Time - 16 September 2021 - 9.30am - 11am or 7.00pm - 8.30pm 

Target Audience - Participants looking to register as a childminder

Course Presenter - Shona O'Conner

Aims and Outcomes - This is a virtual session that explores what Childminding is and whether this is right for you and your family. It covers the impact of working from your own home. It also looks at the legislation and regulatory body that childminders are registered with. The course goes on and looks at The Health and Social Care Standards, finishing with registering and running a childminders service. This is a short session that will give you a flavour of what Childminding is.

By the end of the course participants should: Be able to have a clear understanding of what is expected of Childminders working from homes.  Be able to, make a decision, with the information that has been provided on whether childminding is right for their own circumstances and whether this would be practical.  Have enough information for them to apply for the Pre Registration Course and take the next steps to become a registered childminder


Pre-Registration Training for Childminders

Date and Time - 7 October 2021 - 9.30am - 11.30am or 6.30pm - 8.30pm

Target Audience - Participants looking to register as a childminder. Participants need to have completed Introduction to Childminding course first.

Aims and Outcomes - These are virtual sessions and by attending a childminder pre-registration course, this will give you all the information you need to get started as a childminder, including copies of relevant national documents, templates for business paperwork and sample policies. It is beneficial to attend an introductory session before booking on a course, however, we appreciate that may not always be possible and will do our best to make other arrangements to discuss the topics covered with people who are keen to attend.

By the end of the course participants should: Have an understanding around the Public services Reform Act 2010 (Scotland) and how the act defines childminding.  Have greater knowledge and understanding on how to apply to the Care Inspectorate to become a registered Childminder and what the processes requires of them.  Be able to develop a range of policies, procedures and written information that is mandatory within a childcare setting.  Be able to understand and implement local and national guidance and keep up to date with practices.  Be able to access and attended a range of training to support their developing service.  Be able to implement risk assessments for their service.  Be able to identify child protection concerns and know signs symptoms and indicators of abuse.  Be able to understand the importance of Food Hygiene, Infection Control and health and Safety and how these relate to their own settings.
