Optimising Student Success – Effective Studying and Learning

View Programme Details

Date and Time - 23 September and 7 October 2021 - 2.00pm - 4.00pm

Target Audience - Secondary School Staff – Guidance/Pupil Support and Subject PTs – ideally 2 from each school

Presenters - Kirsty Blyth & Julie Martin - Perth and Kinross Council

Aims and Outcomes -  Needs analysis has told us that young people often don’t know how to study effectively and that school staff may not know about the neuroscience behind effective studying and learning, and therefore what advice they should be giving young people in order to support performance in assessments and exams. This has a clear link to raising attainment, as well as to COVID recovery, given that young people are likely to have external exams this year for the first time since 2019.

The course aims to deliver professional learning around effective studying and learning at universal level, supporting staff to deliver associated PSE sessions and provide ongoing guidance to young people and parents.  Materials will be shared for use in lessons and to provide information to young people and parents.

Session 1 will include input on evidence-based effective studying & learning, review of the associated SWAY for young people and parents, as well as draft lesson plans.

Session 2 will involve collaborative discussion and planning for delivery of sessions to students from October 2021.
