Using the Primary One Literacy Assessment Action Resource (POLAAR) in PKC

Date and Time - 23 August 2021 - 4.00pm - 5.15pm (no longer available)

 

Target Audience - P1 Class Teacher (who have not attended previous POLAAR Training) and other practitioners working with P1 Learners

 

Presenters - Lesley Lennon and Pauline Linn - Education Support Officers, Perth and Kinross Council 

 

Aims - Explore the background, purpose and key features of POLAAR.  Consider the use of POLAAR in the current national and PKC context.  Engage in professional dialogue.  Share practice and relevant documents/resources to support literacy at classroom and individual child levels. 

Outcomes - Greater awareness of the POLAAR staged intervention model to identify the most effective interventions at universal and targeted levels.  Increased confidence when identifying and assessing children who are most at risk of developing later difficulties with reading and writing. 


Early Reading Part 1

Date and Time: 27 September 4pm-5.30pm

Target Audience: Early Years Practitioners in ELC settings and Primary 1 teachers new to Primary 1.

Presenters: Pauline Linn and Wendy Baird

Aims: To develop practitioners knowledge, skills and confidence in teaching early reading, through purposeful activities which build on the way children develop and use literacy.

Outcomes:  Practitioners’ increased understanding of their role in the provision of focussed and universal interventions to support early reading.
Practitioners’ will be able to create high quality spaces and experiences, both indoors and outdoors that will support the development of early reading .

Early Reading Part 2

Date and Time: 4 November 4pm-5.30pm

Target Audience: Early Years Practitioners and Teachers working in Primary 1 and 2.

Presenters: Pauline Linn and Wendy Baird

AIM: Develop teacher confidence to balance play-based learning with the systematic development and learning of skills and techniques for reading.

Outcomes: Teachers and ELC practitioners will have an increased knowledge and understanding of their role in the teaching and the range of skills that children need to become successful and confident readers.
